EHS Boys Win, EHS, WSS Girls Fall

The girls game opened the evening as the host squad captured a 58-47 win over the Hearts.
Effingham edged out to a 12-10 opening quarter lead as Taylor Armstrong tallied six points on three of four from the field. But the Bulldogs came back with a 25-20 run to lead 35-32 at halftime. Five Bulldogs scored in the contest on five baskets and were five of six at the line.
Armstrong continued her strong play with two more baskets for 10 by halftime.
Mahomet-Seymour held that same five point lead after the third quarter, 36-31.
Then came the fateful final period when the Bulldogs started popping in three-pointers and Cayla Koerner, who had scored 12 in the first three quarters, went to work with 11 points. She connected on three trifectas while Savannah Oregeron hit two three-pointers and the Bulldogs swept away to an 11-point win.
Koerner finished with 23 points to lead Mahomet-Seymour while Nichole Taylor added 12.
Effingham was led by Armstrong with 16 and Annie Frost with 14. The Hearts drop to 2-5 on the season while M-S improved to 4-2.
In the boys contest, Effingham claimed a 71-62 victory.
The Hearts held a 19-14 opening quarter lead as Parker Wolfe and Jacob Stoneburner went to work from three-point range, nailing two each and Nate Thompson also scored six points.
But the Bulldogs came back with a 19-14 second period and knotted the score at 33-33 at halftime. Five Mahomet-Seymour players scored led by Luke Koller with six points. Effingham was led by Garrett Wolfe with nine points on three baskets plus a three-pointer.
The Hearts got untracked in the third period with a 21-15 run to pull ahead 54-48. Once again the three-point shot was prominently featured. Both G. and P. Wolfe connected on two each while Stoneburner hit one. P. Wolfe was four of five from the field and two of two at the line for 12 points.
EHS continued it's run with a 17-14 final period. Stoneburner connected on three baskets for six points.
Four Hearts finished in double figures led by P. Wolfe with 23 points. G. Wolfe contributed 18, Stoneburner 15 and Thompson 11.

At ALAH
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 57-46 Wednesday evening.
ALAH took a 13-9 opening quarter lead and led 33-21 at halftime.Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with a 25-24 second half run but couldn't make up that first half deficit.
Kinkelaar led the way for the Hatchets with 12 points while Hannah Hayes chipped in with 10.
