Bearcats' Defense Shines In Victory Over UIS

LEBANON -- The McKendree University men's basketball team defeated the University of Illinois Southern Tuesday night by a final score of 66-42.

How it Happened: Defense was the name of the game in the first half for the Bearcats. They held the Prairie Stars to 17 points in the first half while shooting 25 percent from the field and forcing eight turnovers. On offense, the Bearcats were dialed in from 3-point range, shooting 46.7 percent in the half, while holding UIS to 18.2 percent.

The Bearcat defense continued to hold the line in the second half, holding the Prairie Stars to three-of-13 from three in the second half.  The Bearcat defense held the UIS offense scoreless for the final 4 and a half minutes of play and opened a 24-point lead in the process. Inside the Box Score:

-- Senior forward Jacob Donaldson (Effingham, IL/Effingham) led the Bearcats on the offensive end on the evening, finishing with a team high 16 points to go along with four boards. He hit five of 11 field goals which included four of six from three-point range. He also connected on two of three free throws.

-- Fellow senior forward Brendon Gooch (Belleville, IL/Althoff ) recorded his third double-double of the campaign, finishing the contest with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

-- The Bearcats shot 41.8 percent from the field on 23-of-55 shooting.

-- From deep, The Bearcats connected on 45 percent of their attempts on 14-of-31 shooting.
