 Effingham St. Anthony took the early lead and went on to down Newton in non-conference boys basketball competition Saturday, 57-36.

The Bulldogs held a 24-18 halftime lead and had a 27-11 final quarter run.

Logan Antrim tallied 18 for the Bulldogs while Grant Nuxoll chipped in with 10.

Newton was led by Ben Meinhart with 11 and Justin Zumbahlen with 10.

In the junior varsity game, St. Anthony was a 52-14 winners. Newton claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 49-45.

At Vandalia

Altamont pulled out a 58-55 non-conference victory Saturday over Vandalia.

The Indians held a 14-10 opening quarter lead as Brennyn Abendroth and Kaden Eirhart knocked in a three-pointer each. Eirhart tallied seven points in the period.

But Vandalia came back with a 16-12 second period to knot the score at 26-26 at halftime. 

The Vandals had a 16-10 third quarter to lead 42-36 going into the final quarter.

That's when Altamont got untracked. Eirhart went on a scoring binge hitting five three-pointers and a regular basket for 17 points. Meanwhile Derick Budde hit a three-pointer while Abendroth scored a regular basket and the Indians claimed the victory with a 22-13 run.

Eirhart finished with 32 points while Abendroth added 14. The Indians connected on 11 three-pointers, eight by Eirhart.

In the junior varsity contest, Atlamont was a 58-51 winner.

At Dieterich

Dieterich hosted Martisnville and tallied a 60-52 non-conference victory Saturday.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 17-12 opening quarter lead as Jack Westendorf tallied eight points and Pete Britton put in a three-pointer.

The lead went to 34-23 at halftime with a 17-11 run. Martinsville came back with a 13-11 third quarter and outscored Dieterich 16-15 in the final period but couldn't make up that first half run by the Maroons.

Bryce Budde tallied 19 for the winners, hitting six field goals, one a three-pointer, and was six of six at the line.

Also in double figures was Britton with 13 on three trifectas and four of six at the line.

Sullivan claimed a 38-33 non-conference win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday.

Sullivan held an 11-9 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 22-16 at halftime. WSS came back with a 9-5 third quarter run but Sullivan returned to form with an 11-8 final period.

Austin Wittenberg led the Hatchets with 20 points. He connected on eight field goals that included two three-pointers and was two of two at the line. The Hatchets drop to 1-4 on the season.

At Strasburg

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) captured a 54-47 non-conference win over Lawrenceville Saturday.

The Cardinals trailed Lawrenceville 13-12 afte rthe opening quarter but moved ahead at halftime, 24-21 behind Logan Fleener's 10 points.

North Clay then had a 15-12 third quarter  and outscored Lawrenceville 15-14 in the final period.

Fleener finished with 20 points for the winners while Alex Boose added nine.

Lawrenceville edged North Clay 52-51 in junior varsity play.

At Louisville

At  Marshall

Teutopolis tallied a 56-40 win over Marshall Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes and Marshall were tied at 13-13 after the opening quarter. T-town connected on three trifectas by three different players.

In the second period, the Wooden Shoes broke open the contest with a 15-9 run to lead 28-22 at halftime. Once again three's were on the program and again by three different players.

In the third quarter, Evan Addis hit two trifectas and Evan Wermert connected on one. The Shoes finished out with a 15-9 final quarter.

Three's were raining down for the Shoes as they hit 12 in the contest led by four from Wermert and three from Evan Addis, all in the second half.
