STRASBURG -- Altamont High School pulled out an exciting 55-53 National Trail Conference boys basketball victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg  Friday evening.

The Hatchets edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead and still held that one point lead at halftime, 20-19.

Altamont came back in the third quarter, outscoring WSS 15-12 and moving ahead 34-32. Noah Klimpel and Kaden Eirhart connected from three-point range in the quarter while Jerod Ruffner and Brennyn Abendroth added a two-pointer each and Eric Kollmann hit two free throws.

In the final quarter it was nip and tuck. Both teams finished with 21 points. Altamont was led by Eirhart in the quarter with 13 of his total 23 points. Windsor/Stew-Stras had five players score with Austin Wittenberg leading the way with six.

The Indians had only Eirhart in double figures but Abendroth tallied nine and Klimpel eight. Altamont is now 2-0 in the conference, 3-2 overall.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Wittenberg with 15 and Gavan Wernsing with 12.

Teutopolis easily handled Okaw Valley in Friday action.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 13-8 opening quarter lead and led 28-12 at halftime. T-town had a 32-15 second half.

Evan Wermert led the way for the Sheos with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Hardiek chipped in with 12 points. Matthew  Deters pulled down eight rebounds.

Dieterich came calling and tallied a 47-33 National Trail Conference win over North Clay (Louisville) Friday evening.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 12-10 opening quarter lead and led 23-14 at halftime. The Maroons went on for a 24-19 second half.

Jackson Westendorf led the Maroons with 14 points while Andrew Lidy had 11 and Pete Britton 10.

North Clay was led by Ethan Bible with eight.

In junior varsity action, North Clay was a 55-37 winner. The Cardinals also claimed the freshman/sophomore game, 29-25.

At Farina

South Central tallied a 62-52 National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday.

The Cougars and Bobcats played to a 15-15 opening quarter tie. South Central then moved ahead 29-27 at halftime as Chase Dodson tallied five points.

South Central kept rolling with a 16-11 third quarter and had a 17-14 final period. Keenin Willshire led the way for the Cougars with 20 points while Collin Miller added 11.

CHBC was led by Jadon Robertson and Lucas Daniel had 12 each while Silas Buzzard added 11.

Neoga played host to St. Elmo/Brownstown in National Trail Conference play and claimed a 41-28 victory.

The Indians held a 22-13 halftime lead. The two teams played even in the third quarter with nine each. Neoga then had a 10-6 final period.

Paci McClure led Neoga with 18 points. Isaac Walk pulled down eight rebounds while Nick Titus had seven. Walk had five assists.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Gavyn Smith with eight points. Brady Maxey and Jace McWhorter had four rebounds each. Ean Forbus had two assists. McWhorter had three steals.

At Neoga

Cumberland's Brennyn Cutts knocked in 23 points to lead the Pirates to a 59-33 win over Arcola Friday.

The Pirates held a 34-15 halftime lead as Cutts hit two three-pointers in the opening quarter and 11 points in the second period.

Cutts went on to knock in eight field goals that included five three-pointers and was two of two at the line. Also in double figures for the Pirates was Ross Hemmen with 10.

Mount Carmel took a 22-15 opening quarter lead and led 39-25 at halftime. The Golden Aces had three players hit double figures. Applebey led the way with 25 while Stipp added 16 and Kennard 14.

Newton was led by Aaron Einhorn with 17 and Mitchell Zumbahlen with 11.

The Eagles are 1-1 in the Little Illini Conference and 2-2 overall.
