T-town Hands Effingham 69-50 Loss

Teutopolis High School ran off to an 18-8 opening quarter lead on Effingham and had a 23-12 third quarter that produced a 69-50 girls basketball win Monday evening.

Lexie Niebrugge knocked in two three-pointers and had an old-fashioned three-point play in the opening quarter run for the Wooden Shoes. Kaycee Niebrugge hit a three-pointer and finished with five points.

Effingham came back with a 15-13 second period to pull within 31-23 at halftime. Meredith Schaefer hit a three-pointer while six other players scored for the Hearts.

But the Shoes got back on track as five players tallied points in the third period with Emily Konkel and Isabella Hardiek contributing six each.

Effingham's Taylor Armstrong scored nine of the team's 12 points in the quarter.

The two teams then played to a 15-15 final period.

Five players hit double figures for the Shoes. L. Niebrugge led the way with 17 points while Kaitlyn Schumacher added 12, Kaylee Niebrugge 11 and Hardiek and Konkel 10 each.

The Hearts were led by Armstrong with 17 points while Ella Niebrugge contributed nine with two three-pointers.

EHS drops to 2-2 on the season while Teutopolis remains unbeaten with a 3-0 record.
