Bulldogs Claim Saturday Win, Area Boys Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School edged Robinson, 53-46 in a non-conference boys basketball contest Saturday.
The Bulldogs took a 12-10 opening quarter lead but the Maroons came back to tie the score at halftime 23-23. The score was still tied after the third quarter at 35-35. St. Anthony then had an 18-11 run on nine points by Logan Antrim and finished out with the win.
Antrim was the lone Bulldog player in double figures with 14 but three other players tallied eight each in even scoring. Kennan Walsh, Grant Nuxoll and Craig Croy scored eight each.
In the junior varsity contest, St. Anthony easily won, 62-45. The freshman/sophomore contest went to the Bulldogs, 33-16.

At Strasburg
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took the early lead and handed Neoga a National Trail Conference loss, 51-41 Saturday.
Vonderheide scored 16 and A. Wittenberg 15 for the winners who improve to 1-2 on the season.
Neoga was led by McClure with 11 and Titus with 10.
Neoga claimed the junior varsity contest, 61-29.

At Olney
Altamont traveled to Olney and fell to the Tigers, 61-43 in a non-conference matchup Saturday.
Olney held a 20-15 opening quarter lead. Altamont's Kaden Eirhart provided 13 of the 15 points as he connected on three trifectas, a regular basket and was two of two at the line.
Eirhart continued his scoring with seven points in the second period but the Tigers ripped out to a 37-25 halftime lead. Olney then had a 14-8 third quarter.
Eirhart finished with nine field goals that included five three-pointers and was four of four at the line for 27 points. Also in double figures was Noah Klimpel with 12.

With three players in double figures, St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed a 52-39 non-conference victory over Martinsville Saturday.
Jace McWhorter tallied 13 points while Caleb Campbell and Brady Maxey scored 10 each.
St. Elmo/Brownstown stepped out to a 20-6 opening quarter lead and led 34-11 at halftime. Martinsville had a 12-5 third period run but couldn't make up that first half deficit.
Campbell led in rebounds for the winners with nine and had two steals. David Stine had four assists and two steals.

North Clay (Louisville) fell to visiting Vandalia, 63-45 in a non-conference matchup Saturday.
Vandalia took the early lead going out to a 16-7 opening quarter and led 34-17 at halftime. The Cardinals came back with a 17-16 third quarter but Vandalia finished out with a 13-11 final period.
North Clay was led by Logan Fleener with 23 points. Alex Boose was a point away from double figures with nine.
Vandalia also claimed the junior varsity contest, 50-37 and a freshman/sophomore matchup, 31-24.

Teutopolis had a 41-22 halftime run and went on for a 76-31 non-conference victory over Lawrenceville Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes led 22-13 after the opening quarter and had a 19-9 second period. The Shoes continued with a 35-9 second half.
Evan Wermert led the way with 21 points while Matt Deters chipped in with 13. T-town connected on five three-pointers.
Max Niebrugge led in rebounds with five as T-town had a 33-14 lead on the boards.

Newton dropped a tough loss to Meridian, 69-62 in Saturday play.
The Eagles stepped out to a 16-8 opening quarter lead and led 27-25 at halftime. Meridian then came charging back with a 21-15 third quarter and outscored the Eagles 23-20 in the final period.
Aaron Einhorn scored 21 to lead Newton. He connected on eight field goals including a three-pointer and was two of three at the line. Also in double figures was Evan Schafer and Mitchell Zumbahlen with 15 each.
Newton won the junior varsity contest, 53-45.
The Eagles are back in action Tuesday at Paris.
