EHS Captures Victory, Area Girls Roundup

The Hearts took a 9-8 opening quarter lead as Meredith Schaefer scored seven of those nine points. But the Green Wave came back with a 9-0 second period to move ahead 17-9 at halftime.
The Hearts bounced back with a 12-8 third period to pull within 25-21 then had a 19-10 final quarter to claim the win.
Taylor Armstrong led the Hearts with 13 points while Ella Niebrugge chipped in with 12 and Schaefer finished with nine.

At Neoga
Neoga held a 26-12 halftime lead over Moweaqua Central A&M and went on for a 39-24 non-conference win Saturday.
Neoga was led by Avery Fearday with 10 points. Sydney Richards had four assists, nine rebounds and three steals while Audrey Ramert pulled down eight boards. Trista Moore had four steals.
The Indians also nabbed a junior varsity game, 22-5.

At Newton
Newton High School took the early lead and went on to down Dieterich, 40-24 in girls basketball action Friday.
The Eagles held a 21-13 halftime lead. Zumbahlen led the way for the Eagles with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and six steals. McClain and Blake had five rebounds each. Einhorn had three assists.
"It is so great to be back playing," said Newton Coach Brad Harris. "The girls have had a long wait and you could see the overeagerness at the beginning of the game. They settled down and played well toegether. We had nice contributions from all 10 girls that played. Tonight was a good start and I know the girls are eager to continue to work hard to get better every day."
The game was the season-opener for Newton.

Teutopolis had a big scoring first half and went on to down Mount Zion, 55-20 in Apollo Conference play Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes took a 12-4 opening quarter lead and had a 22-9 second period for a 34-13 halftime lead.
Grace Tegeler knocked in two three-pointers in the first period and one in the second and finished with 11 points for the Wooden Shoes. Leading the way offensively was Lexie Niebrugge with 16 on four three-pointers and four of four from the line.
Kaitlyn Schumacher led the way in rebounds with seven and Niebrugge added six.

Grace Nelson led the Indians with 36 points. She scored four in the opening quarter as Brooke Runge led the way with 10. Nelson then went on a roll over the next two periods scoring 17 in the second quarter and 11 in the third period.
