CHBC, Neoga Claim Girls H.S. Basketball Wins

COWDEN -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City opened the high school girls basketball season with a 61-53 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday evening.

CHBC edged out to a 10-7 opening quarter lead and led 30-18 at halftime.

Gracie Heckert led the way for the Bobcats with 22 points, connecting on eight field goals that included two three-pointers and was four of six at the line. She had a double-double with 11 rebounds. Also in double figures was Lani Morrison with 12. Sydney Lorton led in assists with three. Heckert, Lorton and Morrison had two steals each.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was led by Mikala Nichols with 18 and Ella Kinkelaar with 16.

In the junior varsity game that went two quarters, WSS was a 22-20 winner.

At Altamont

Neoga High School came calling and edged Altamont 68-65 in the season opener Monday.

Neoga edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter lead but Altamont came back to move ahead 32-31 at halftime. Neoga had a 20-15 third quarter run to regain the lead then had to hold on for the victory.

Four Neoga players finished in double figures. Sydney Richards led the way with 19 points while Abbi Hatton added 14, Kylee Phillips 13 and Audrey Ramert 11.

Altamont was led by Grace Nelson with 40 points. Nelson hit 15 field goals that included two three-pointers and was eight of 11 at the line.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont edged Neoga, 35-34 in another exciting contest.
