Paris Edges EHS in Girls B-Ball Opener

The Paris Lady Tigers edged the Effingham Lady Hearts 45-40 Monday night in the opening game of the girls basketball season. The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

Paris held a 10-5 lead after one quarter, but the Lady Hearts were within 23-20 at halftime. The Lady Tigers outscored Effingham 16-11 to hold a 39-31 lead heading into the final quarter, but the Lady Hearts scored the first eight points of the period to pull into a 39-39 tie. Paris, though, outscored Effingham 6-1 in the final couple of minutes to post the five-point win.

Effingham shot 34% from the field, but made just 7 of 26 shots in the second half. The Hearts made 5 of 10 free throws, grabbed 34 rebounds, turned the ball over 15 times and made 3 of 14 threes.

Paris made 33% of its shots, including 7 of 27 threes. The Tigers hit on 6 of 7 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds and committed 10 turnovers.

Annie Frost led Effingham, posting a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Also for Effingham: Meredith Schaefer 9, Ella Niebrugge 7, Taylor Armstrong 6, Sawyer Althoff 4, and Madison Mapes 3.

Madyson Rigdon led Paris and all scorers with 18 points.

Paris won the JV game 54-34.
