Maryland Hands Illinois 66-63 Defeat

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 12 Fighting Illini fell to Maryland 66-63 on Sunday night. The Illini were led by junior Ayo Dosunmu's 23 points and eight rebounds as well as sophomore Kofi Cockburn's 21 points and 10 boards.

The two teams stayed close throughout the game, with Illinois holding the lead for 22 minutes. Down three with eight seconds left, Dosunmu had a chance to tie the game off of a missed Maryland free throw but could not convert.

Senior Da'Monte WIliams was held scoreless on the night but contributed nine rebounds and five assists while also taking two charging fouls. Freshman Adam Miller paced the Illini offense in the first half with three three-point field goals to total nine points.

 

ANOTHER COCKBURN GAME

Cockburn once again provided an impressive performance for the Illini, securing his fourth consecutive double-double and his eighth of the season. His scoring and rebounding output combined with two impressive blocks and continuous defending of the paint put Illinois in a position to win at the end.
He converted on 8-of-10 shots and made 5-of-6 free throws on the night.

The Illini's next action will be on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Nebraska. The game will start at 8 pm CT and be broadcasted by BTN.
