It was opening night for the 2020-21 National Basketball Association season with two games on tap that included Brooklyn against Golden State and the battle of the Los Angeles teams as the Clippers faced the Lakers.

The Lakers picked up their championship hardware before the game began by Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

But it didn't help the defending champions as they fell to the Clippers, 116-109.

The Clippers were led by Paul George with 33 points.

Nets 125, Warriors 99

The Nets stepped out to an 18-8 first quarter lead as Kevin Durant scored 10 of those points. Durant was making his first appearance after being lost to an Achilles tendon injury on June 10, 2019.

He finished with 22 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Leading the way for the Nets was Kyrie Irving with 25 points.

The Warriors were led by Stephen Curry with 20, James Wiseman with 19 and Andrew Wiggins with 13.
