Commissioner Adam Silver is pushing for the National Basketball Association to start its new season before Christmas, saying on a conference call with the league’s general managers Monday that “time is running out” on the possibility of starting by the holiday, and that hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue could be lost if it doesn’t happen.

The Players Association has been reluctant to agree to a December 22 start, after the coronavirus-delayed season just ended in mid-October, and to a reduced 72-game regular season. The union prefers to start in mid-January.
