NBA Hall of Fame center Wes Unseld, who led Washington to its only NBA championship in 1978 and was chosen one of the 50 greatest players in league history, died Tuesday. He was 74.

Unseld spent his entire 13-year career with the Bullets-Wizards franchise, which was based in Baltimore when he was drafted. He won Rookie of the Year and MVP in the 1968-69 season, the only player other than Wilt Chamberlain to do so in the same season. He also won the MVP of the 1978 NBA Finals, when Washington won the title.

Unseld retired after 1981, and later was Washington's head coach from 1987 to 1994, and its general manager from 1996 to 2003.
