JACKSONVILLE -- Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin moved into the championship game of the Class 3A Jacksonville Boys Basketball Regional with a 50-43 victory over Jacksonville Tuesday evening.

Travis Vogel, a 6-foot-3 senior, plays for Sacred Heart Griffin and finished with a game-high 17 points in Tuesday's victory. Vogel is the grandson of Bob Vogel of Altamont.

SHG trailed Jacksonville in the third quarter but a three-pointer by Vogel tied the score at 28-28 at the end of the period. In the final quarter, SHG pulled ahead 36-31 and never looked back. Vogel connected on 10 of 13 from the free throw line to lead the winners.

The senior played basketball his freshman and sophomore years before not competing during his junior season. He came back for his senior year and worked his way back into the starting lineup for the Cyclones. He also has a brother, Tyler, who plays for the junior varsity squad.

Sacred Heart Griffin (22-7) will take on Chatham Glenwood (20-10) at 7:30 p.m. Friday for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Mount Zion Sectional.
