Pro Sports Could Be Shut Down For Two Months

The latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control out Sunday that all events of 50 people or more be called off for the next eight weeks means pro sports could be shut down for at least two months. That's in line with an ESPN report Sunday that NBA owners and executives increasingly believe a “best case scenario” is for a return to play in mid-to-late June, and even then without fans, and that the league is looking for possible arena dates through August.

 

 

Towns donates $100,000 To Mayo Clinic

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns is donating $100,000 to the Mayo Clinic for testing for the coronavirus. The Minnesota-based medical system said the money will help increase testing capacity from 200 tests per day to more than 1,000 per day in the coming weeks. 

 

Sports Figures Posting Coronavirus Messages

Some sport figures are posting messages about the coronavirus on social media, urging people to follow guidelines about social distancing and other practices to try to help stop the spread of the virus. Among them is Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert, whose positive test last week led the NBA to suspend the season. He said he's feeling better, and that “I wish I would have took this thing more seriously.” Also posting messages were the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry and golf legend Jack Nicklaus.
