CLASS 1A DIETERICH REGIONAL

Dieterich fell victim to Oblong in its own regional championship Saturday evening, 61-46.

Oblong edged out to a 10-9 opening quarter lead but Dieterich came roaring back to lead 22-19 at halftime behind Tanner Traub's seven points. Traub contributed two three-pointers and a couple free throws in the third quarter but Oblong had gotten back on track to take a 40-38 lead.

In the final period it was all Oblong with a 21-8 run for the victory. Anthony Johnson tallied 17 to lead the winners while Kurt Knollenberg added 14 and Gerald Richardson 10.

Dieterich was led by Traub with 19 and Dalton Hinterscher with 12. Oblong advances to the Altamont Sectional Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. to face Woodlawn, a 69-25 winner over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in the Woodlawn Regional.

CLASS 1A ST. ELMO REGIONAL

Altamont lost its bid for a regional title by dropping the championship game to Nokomis Friday evening 51-42.

Nokomis edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead despite the seven points by Altamont's Garrett Ziegler. But the Indians edged back to knot the score 18-18 at halftime. Jon Kuhns connected on three free throws and Ziegler hit a three-pointer.

In the third period, the Indians had a 15-8 run to lead 33-26 going into the final quarter. Kuhns hit for six points while Ziegler added four and Cole Borders connected on a trifecta.

But Nokomis rallied and took a 25-9 final period run to pull out the victory. Herpstreith hit two field goals and was seven of 10 from the free throw line. Nokomis connected on 13 free throws in the final quarter.

Wright tallied 15, Herpstreith 14 and Huber 11 for the winners. Altamont was led by Ziegler with 17 and J. Kuhns with nine.

Nokomis advances to meet North Clay (Louisville) Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Altamont Sectional.

North Clay Ticket Information: Tickets will be $5 which is set by the IHSA regardless of age, and on sale at the North Clay High School office (cash only) for students and faculty Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. for the general public. The remaining tickets will be available on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Clay High School office or 6:45 p.m. at Altamont High School ticket office.

CLASS 1A EDWARDS COUNTY REGIONAL

North Clay (Louisville) captured the championship of the Edwards County Regional Friday evening over Cisne, 62-59.

The Cardinals fell behind in the opening quarter 12-10 and still trailed at halftime 24-23. The two squads played to a 19-19 third quarter tie and the Cardinals were still behind by a point going into the final quarter.

In the final period, Logan Hildebrand, a 6-foot-4 senior, nailed six points and Dylan Walker, a 6-foot-1 junior, knocked in a three-pointer and connected on five of six free throws as North Clay outran Cisne 20-16 to pull out the three-point victory.

Hildebrand finished with 21 points while Walker tallied 14 and Cody Yoho 10. Cisne was led by D. Atteberry with 22 and A. Atteberry with 14.

North Clay will now meet Nokomis at the Altamont Sectional Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

CLASS 2A NEWTON REGIONAL

Host Newton couldn't hold off Robinson in the championship game of its own regional Friday evening as the Maroons pulled out a 68-46 win.

Robinson jumped out to a 26-16 opening quarter lead and led 40-23 at halftime. The game was the Maroons the rest of the way.

Aaron Siler tallied 30 points for the winners while Derrick Nicholas scored 18. Newton was led by Dylan Davidson with 18 and Luke Stone with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Robinson advances to the Greenville Sectional against Breese Central, a 54-39 winner over Carlyle in the Breese Central Regional. Robinson and Breese Central will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Teutopolis captured the championship of the Hillsboro Regional Friday evening with an 85-48 win over Vandalia.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 24-12 opening quarter lead and zipped that out to 40-19 at halftime and never looked back in this one.

Four players hit double digits for the Shoes. Derek Smith and Jared Waldhoff tallied 18 each. Brett Mette chipped in with 15 and Trevor Falbe 12. The Shoes connected on seven three-pointers in the contest led by Smith with three.

T-town advances to the Greenville Sectional Tuesday to face Roxana, a 49-31 winner over Staunton in the Staunton Regional, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
