Altamont Defeats Dieterich to Win Own Regional

Two National Trail Conference rivals squared off for the championship of the Altamont Class 1A Regional Tournament Friday night, and Altamont prevailed with a 64-44 victory.

Altamont started off quickly scoring the first seven points of the game and led 19-11 after one quarter. After an 18-9 second quarter Altamont extended their lead to a 37-20 halftime lead. A 17-15 edge had Altamont in front 54-35 after three quarters, and the Indians outscored the Movin Maroons 19-9 in the fourth quarter to win by 20 points.

Altamont had four players in double figures, led by Aidan Jahraus with 15 points. Kaden Eirhart and Noah Teasley each scored 13 points, and Jared Kollman scored 12 points. Also for the Indians: Noah Klimpel 5, and Derrick Budde, Denver Duckwitz and Jerod Ruffner, each with 2 points.

For Dieterich, Cole Niebrugge scored 12 points and Collin Hartke added 11 points. Also for the Movin Maroons: Pete Britton 9, Derek Kuhl 7, and Andrew Lidy 5.

With the win, Altamont advances to the Casey-Westfield Class 1A Sectional. Altamont will play Central A&M Tuesday at 7pm. We will have the game on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
