Highland Wins Effingham Regional

Highland High School captured the championship of the Class 3A Effingham Girls Basketball Regional Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs defeated Bethalto Civic Memorial, 48-34. Highland held a 20-13 halftime lead but Bethalto moved within a point going into the final period. Highland when went on a 22-9 tear for the win.

Ellie Brown led the way for Highland with 16 while Bella LaPorta added 14.

Highland advances to the Springfield (UIS) Super-Sectional Monday to take on Springfield Lanphier at 7 p.m. for the right to advance to State.
