Dieterich, S. Central, N. Clay, Neoga Advance In Regionals

ALTAMONT -- Dieterich and South Central came out winners in the Class 1A Altamont Boys Basketball Regional Tuesday evening.

Dieterich opened the evening with a 56-45 victory over Mulberry Grove.

Despite trailing 17-15 after the opening quarter, Dieterich came back to lead 30-26 at halftime. Collin Hartke kept the Movin' Maroons in the game in that opening period with eight points on two baskets that included a three-pointer and three of three at the line.

Cole Niebrugge took over the scoring lead with seven in the second period as Dieterich held a 30-26 halftime tally. And, in even scoring, Derek Kuhl was the game-leader  in the third period with 11 points.

The Maroons continued on to the victory with a 26-19 second half. Three players hit double figures for the Maroons with Hartke leading the way with 14 points while Kuhl added 13, and Niebrugge finished with 11.

In the second contest, South Central picked up a 53-40 win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran.

The Cougars held a three-point lead at halftime then broke the game open with a 17-5 third period.

South Central had three players hit the double digit mark. Collin Miller led the way with 19 points while Chase Dodson added 18 and Hunter Brandt 10.

The Cougars improve to 18-11 on the seaon.

South Central and Dieterich will square off tonight in the second game at 7:30. Opening the evening, Altamont will face St. Elmo/Brownstown at 6.

Class 1A Red Hill Regional

North Clay (Louisville) continues to motor along in the Class 1A Red Hill (Bridgeport) Regional with a victory Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals ran out to a 26-17 opening quarter lead as Luke Fleener connected on seven field goals and two of two at the line for 16 points.

They continued their run with a 24-10 second period to lead 50-27 at halftime. Logan Fleener scored seven in the third quarter while Tyson Jones chipped in with five.

The Cardinals had a 23-14 third period with another player, this time Ethan Bible, leading the way with six.

Luke Fleener finished with 32 on 14 field goals and four of five at the line. Also in double figures was Bible with 13.

Oblong was led by Caleb Black with 18 and Hayden Johnson with 15.

In the second game, Odin downed Hutsonville/Palestine, 62-49.

Tonight's games will feature top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony against Red HIll (Bridgeport) at 6 followed by North Clay against Odin at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional

Neoga came out a winner in the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional Tuesday evening.

In the opening contest, Bethany Okaw Valley won over Chrisman, 60-25.

Neoga then tallied a 57-35 victory over Tri-County.

The Indians held a 14-9 opening quarter lead as Trevor Roy and Paci McClure scored six points each.

But Tri-County came back with a 9-6 second period to pull within four at halftime and trailed eight going into the final quarter. That's when Neoga salted the contest away with a 20-6 run.

Four players hit double figures for the Indians. McClure finished with 17 on three field goals that included one three-pointer and was 10 of 11 at the line. Roy chipped in with 14 while Trenton Moore and Nick Titus contributed 10 each.

Neoga advances to face Bethany Okaw Valley at 7:30 p.m. today in the second game. In the opener this evening, Cumberland squares off against Casey-Westfield at 6. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Macon Meridian Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City saw its season come to a close with a 77-19 loss to Nokomis in the Macon Meridian Regional Tuesday evening.

In the second game, Macon Meridian edged Ramsey, 67-62.

The regional continues tonight as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg faces Moweaqua Central A&M at 6 followed by Nokomis against Macon Meridian at 7:30. The winners advance to the title contest Friday evening at 7.
