Altamont, SEB, WSS, C'land, Newton Claim Regional Wins

ALTAMONT -- Atlamont and St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed opening round victories at the Class 1A Altamont Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening.
The Indians opened the evening by downing Sandoval, 64-29. Altamont ripped out to a 21-7 opening quarter lead and led 39-18 at halftime. Noah Teasley tallied eight in the opening quarter and pushed his total to 15 by halftime. Kaden Eirhart also aided the opening quarter run with seven points while Noah Klimpel and Aidan Jahraus contributed a three-pointer each.
Teasley finished with 28 points to lead the Indians. Jahraus, Eirhart and Klimpel were one point away from double figures with nine each.
St. Elmo/Brownstown edged out to a 20-16 opening quarter lead and led by only a basket at halftime, 33-31.
Patoka pulled within 48-47 going into the final period and actually hung close the rest of the way, eventually falling, 75-71.
Four St. Elmo/Brownstown players finished in double figures. Gavyn Smith led the way with 21 followed by Jaxson Tish 15, Jace McWhorter 13 and Andy Goldsborough 10. Goldsborough led in rebounds with nine while Smith pulled down eight. Goldsborough had four assists. Jacob Baron blocked three shots.
The regional continues tonight as Dieterich takes on Mulberry Grove at 6 followed by South Central facing Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 7;30.
Altamont and St. Elmo/Brownstown advance to meet each other at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Class 1A Macon Meridian Regional
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, seeded 11th, moved into the second round of this regional with a 60-44 win over seventh-seeded Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Monday evening.
WSS edged out to a 17-12 opening quarter lead and led 27-16 at halftime. The Hatchets had a 33-28 second half.
Austin Wittenberg led the Hatchets in scoring with 16 while Samuel Vonderheide added 15 and Gavan Wernsing 13. WSS improved to 14-18 on the season.
ALAH saw its season end with an 18-10 mark.
Windsor/Stew-Stras will now face top-seeded Moweaqua Central A&M at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Tonight's games feature Nokomis against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6 followed by Macon Meridian facing Ramsey at 7:30.

Class 1A Red Hill (Bridgeport) Regional
Red Hill tallied an opening round victory over Cisne, 63-52 Monday evening.
Red Hill is seeded 10th and upset the eighth-seeded Cisne.
Red Hill now faces top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Tonight's games feature North Clay (Louisville) against Oblong at 6 followed by Odin taking on Hutsonville/Palestine at 7:30. These winners advance to the second contest Wednesday at 7:30.
Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional
Cumberland, seeded eighth, downed ninth-seeded Arcola, 52-26 in the second game of the evening at the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional.
In the opener, Casey-Westfield won easily over Martinsville, 66-21.
The No. 2 Casey-Westfield will now face Cumberland at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Tonight's contests feature (3) Bethany Okaw Valley against (13) Chrisman at 6 followed by (6) Neoga against (10) Tri-County at 7:30.
Class 2A Paris Regional
Newton advanced in the Paris Regional by beating Sullivan, 67-51.
The fifth-seeded Newton advances to face No. 3 Pana at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In the opening game. No. 8 Robinson downed No. 9 Paris, 55-39.
Tonight's contest will feature No. 2 Teutopolis against Robinson at 7 p.m.
Class 2A Flora Regional
Vandalia and Shelbyville were opening round winners at the Flora Regional.
Vandalia won over Flora, 70-49 while Shelbyville downed Lawrenceville, 53-44.
Vandalia will meet Marshall tonight at 7 while Shelbyville advances to a Wednesday contest against Salem at 7.
