Lady Shoes See Season End at Super-Sectional

MCLEANSBORO -- The Teutopolis Lady Shoes saw another great season come to an end Monday night.

T-town lost to the Carterville Lady Lions, 57-55, at the McLeansboro 2A Super-Sectional. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. 

The Lady Shoes fell behind by as much as 11 points in the second half before coming back to lose by two with a layup and no more timeouts remaining. 

After scoring 29 points in the first three quarters, Teutopolis poured in 26 points in the final quarter, but it was just not quite enough.

The first half was nip-and-tuck, with Carterville in front 11-10 after one quarter and up 20-19 at halftime. As is often the case, though, Carterville outscored the Shoes 17-10 in the third quarter and led by eight, 37-29, heading into the final period. While T-Town scored 26 points, Carterville scored 20 points of their own to preserve the win.

Teutopolis shot 40% from the field, 17 of 43, including 9 of 17 threes. The Shoes made 12 of 19 foul shots, turned the ball over just eight times, and pulled down 21 rebounds.

Carterville made 47% of its shots, 21 of 44, including 4 of 10 threes. The Lions made 11 of 16 free throws, committed 11 turnovers, and grabbed 22 rebounds.

Lexie Niebrugge led Teutopolis with 18 points, 12 in the first half. Olivia Niemerg scored 13 points, 10 in the second half. Sophomore Kaitlyn Schumacher scored 13 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. Niebrugge and Niemerg each grabbed five boards. Also for the Lady Shoes: Ciara Repking 8, Karsyn Mette 2, and Hope Bueker 1.

Carterville also had three double figure scorers: Alecia Doyle with 17, and Megan Barton and Jeniah Thompson each with 16.

Carterville, headed to the Final Four for the first time in school history, is now 31-2. The Lady Shoes finish their season at 25-9. They say goodbye to seniors Ciara Roepke, Olivia Niemerg Karsyn Mette, and Claire Bushur.
