One Local Player Advances at State Three-Point Competition; Kaufman To Shoot Saturday

Five area players competed in the Three-Point Showdown at Redbird Arena in Normal Thursday.

In the Class 1A competition, Effingham St. Anthony's Makayla Walsh connected on four three-pointers while Brownstown's Audriana Pruett hit seven and teammate Danielle Austin hit one.

Four players advanced and those included Morgan Zindars (Armstrong) with nine and hitting five in a playoff, Jessica Moriarty (Arlington Heights Christian Life) with 10, Taylor McClintock (Glasford Illini Bluffs) with 10 and Cassie Reilery (Prophetstown) with 11.

In the Class 2A competition, Cumberland's Katie Poe advanced by hitting 10 three-pointers. Not advancing was Newton's Emily Kerner who connected on five.

Also advancing were Mariah Dach (Pecatonica) with eight, Meghan Huggins (Warrens-Latham) with with eight and Kennah White (Hillsboro) with nine.

Those advancing will take part in final round action today at approximately 8 p.m.

Class 3A

Effingham High School's Caitlin Kaufman will have to wait until competing in the three-point shootout at the Class 3A Waterloo Sectional Saturday.

The sectional championship game between Breese Mater Dei and Metropolis Massac County was postponed due to the weather from Thursday evening until 3 p.m. Saturday. The three-point shootout will begin at 1:30 p.m.
