Big First Quarter Leads to Senior Night Win for St. Anthony Over Altamont

A big first quarter led the St. Anthony Bulldogs to a Senior Night win over the Altamont Indians, 59-36. The win gives the Bulldogs the NTC regular season championship and the NTC tournament championship. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Bulldogs were relentless in the first quarter and led 24-8 at the end of the period. St. Anthony made 9 of 12 shots in the opening period including 4 of 4 threes. Those were the only threes the Bulldogs made in the game.

It was a game of ebbs and flows from that point, as an 11-11 second quarter left St. Anthony up 35-19 at halftime. Altamont went on a third quarter run and cut the deficit to 10 before the Bulldogs regrouped and had the lead at 47-29 heading for the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs outscored the Indians 12-7 in the final period to post a 23-point win.

St. Anthony made just 15 of 46 shots after the first period, but was able to keep Altamont at bay with a tremendous night on the boards, outrebounding Altamont 40-17 for the game.

St. Anthony made 24 of 58 shots on the night, 41%, including 4 of 16 threes. The Bulldogs were 7 of 14 at the line and turned the ball over 11 times.

Altamont made 16 of 44 shots, 36%, including 2 of 12 threes. Altamont was 2 of 6 from the line, and turned the ball over 12 times.

Jaccob Dust was a huge factor in the win, scoring 16 points and pulling down 15 rebounds for St. Anthony. Jack Elder was also in double figures with 10 points along with seven rebounds, Kaden Fearday scored nine points, Aaron Webb scored eight points, Jack Hoene had seven points with seven rebounds, Logan Antrim five points, and Connor Walk four points.

Kaden Eirhart led Altamont with eight points, Noah Teasley seven, Noah Klimpel six, Denver Duckwitz five, Aidan Jahraus four, and Jared Kollman, Derrick Budde and Jerod Ruffner two apiece.

The win improves St. Anthony's record to 25-3 with one more regular season game on Friday night at Casey-Westfield. Altamont is now 24-6 and will wrap up the regular season on Friday night hosting Windsor/Stew-Stras on the Indians' Senior Night.

St. Anthony won the JV game 61-40. For the JV Bulldogs: Seth Hotze 14, Eli Moore 13, and Craig Croy 10. For the JV Indians: Jared Hammer 10 and Jerod Ruffner 10.
