EHS Girls Season Comes to Close in Regional Play

OLNEY -- Effingham High School saw its season come to a close with a 53-49 loss to Mount Vernon in the Class 3A Olney Girls Basketball Regional Monday evening.

The Hearts trailed Mount Vernon 13-10 after the opening quarter. Taylor Armstrong led EHS with six points. The Hearts then went on a 15-6 second period run to lead 25-19 at halftime. Annie Frost connected on three baskets in the quarter.

EHS was still leading at the end of the third period, 34-33. That's when the Rams got untracked as Dees hit a field goal and was six of nine at the free throw line for eight points while Hayes tallied six. Mount Vernon hit 63 percent from the tree throw line with 22 of 35 for the game. The Hearts only went to the free throw line 10 times and connected on three.

The Rams had three players in double figures as Hayes led with 20, Dees with 13 and Harrison with 10.

The Hearts were led by Frost with 15 and Armstrong with 10.

In the other contest, Olney downed Charleston, 52-40.

Top-seeded Olney will now meet No. 4 Mount Vernon at 7 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.
