Teutopolis Eighth-Graders to Play for Third Place at State

Teutopolis won their quarterfinal game over Lansing Heritage 35-16 at Tolono Unity Junior High School, then lost their semifinal game 31-27 to South Holland McKinley.
In the quarterfinal game, Teutopolis rolled out to an 8-2 lead after one quarter and led 16-9 at halftime. It was 26-15 after three quarters, and then the Wooden Shoes posted a 9-1 edge in the fourth quarter to win by 19 points.
Mitch Koester led the 8th grade Shoes with 10 points. Also for Teutopolis: Evan Waldhoff 8, Joey Niebrugge 7, Ethan Thoele 6, and Eli Hanson and Austin Bloemer 2 each.
In the semifinal contest, Teutopolis led 6-4 after one quarter and were up 13-8 at halftime. South Holland McKinley, though, posted a 12-4 third quarter to move in front 20-17 and outscored the Shoes 11-10 in the fourth quarter to win by four.
For Teutopolis, Eli Hanson and Mitch Koester each scored 7 points, Tyler Pruemer 5, Joey Niebrugge 4, and Evan Waldhoff and Garrett Gaddis 2 each.
Teutopolis is now 24-4 and will play at 6pm Thursday for third place against the winner of Saturday's Taylor Ridge Rockridge vs Monticello game.
