Lincoln had won its last several games by an average of more than 30 points.

Effingham did what they could to change that Friday night.

Lincoln won the contest by a score of 62-46 in a game heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

It looked like the game would be a blowout, as Lincoln scored the first 12 points of the game. Effingham figured some things out, though, and the score stood 18-8 after one quarter. The Hearts outscored the Railsplitters 15-10 in the second quarter to trim the score to 28-23 at halftime.

Lincoln went on another run to start the second half and led 44-35 after three quarters. The Hearts had to start fouling and Lincoln made its free throws, outpointing Effingham 18-11 in the fourth quarter to win by 16.

Both teams shot the ball well.

Lincoln made 23 of 43 shots, 54%, including 7 of 20 threes. Effingham made 18 of 34 shots, 53%, including 10 of 18 threes. There were very few fouls called until late in the game, so very few free throws. Lincoln made 8 of 9, the Hearts made both of theirs. The Hearts committed 14 turnovers to just five for Lincoln. Effingham did outrebound the Railers 18-16. Not many rebounds since there weren't that many missed shots.

Parker Wolfe led the way in scoring for the Hearts with 16 points. Nate Thompson scored 14 points and led the Hearts in rebounds with seven. Tate Niebrugge hit three threes for his nine points, Drew Thompson scored five points, and Brayden Pals had two points.

Kameron Whiteman hit five threes in the first half and finished with 15 points to share scoring honors with Kaden Froebe. Dylan Singleton scored 12 points, Will Ewald 11 points, and Landon Hullinger nine points.

Lincoln improved to 24-2 on the season, while Effingham is now 15-11. The Hearts are right back in action at 5:30pm today against Paxton-Buckley-Loda at the Teutopolis Shootout. We will have the game as part of a four-game broadcast day on 979XFM.

Lincoln won the JV game 44-34. Max Hardiek led the JV Hearts with 10 points, while Garrett Wolfe scored nine points.
