Bulldogs Explode Out of Gate, Defeat Wooden Shoes

The St. Anthony Bulldogs exploded out of the gate Friday night and went on to defeat the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, 57-43 in hoops action at the Enlow Center. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. Watch for a replay of the game later on our YouTube channel.

The Bulldogs could do no wrong in the first quarter and led 17-2 at the end of the period. St. Anthony outscored the Shoes 17-11 in the second quarter and led 34-13 at halftime. The Bulldogs led by as many as 24 points before the Shoes started to get some traction.

Teutopolis outscored the Bulldogs 30-23 after intermission, but the Shoes had just dug too big a hole and lost by 14 points.

St. Anthony shot 49% from the field, 21 of 43, including 4 of 8 threes. The Bulldogs were 11 of 17 from the line, and pulled down 27 rebounds.

Teutopolis shot 35% from the field, 18 of 51, including 3 of 18 threes. The Shoes shot just five foul shots, and made three. Teutopolis grabbed 25 rebounds.

A lack of turnovers were impressive especially in a game between these two teams; seven for St. Anthony, nine for Teutopolis.

Jaccob Dust led St. Anthony with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Jack Hoene scored 15 points on six of nine shooting. Also for St. Anthony: Kaden Fearday nine, Logan Antrim eight, Aaron Webb seven, and Jack Elder one.

Matthew Deters came off the bench to lead Teutopolis with 13 points on six of six shooting with six rebounds. Luke Ungrund scored 11 points. Also for the Shoes: Jordan Hardiek seven, Evan Wermert five, Evan Addis three, and Brock Deters and Mitch Hardiek two apiece, 

St. Anthony is now 21-3 on the season while a game against the Newton Eagles tonight. Teutopolis is now 16-8 and takes on Robinson tonight.

Teutopolis won the JV game 44-37. Matthew Deters led the JV Shoes with 13 points, while Seth Hotze led the JV Bulldogs with 11 points.
