BROWNSTOWN -- Brownstown/St. Elmo celebrated Senior Night with a 67-56 win over Effingham St. Anthony in girls high school basketball Thursday evening.

BSE stepped out to a 19-11 opening quarter lead behind six points by Natalie Oberlink. That lead went to 34-24 at halftime as Claire Wilhour had a seven point quarter.

But the Bulldogs mounted a comeback bid in the third period, pulling within 42-41. Riley Guy tallied 10 points while Reese Jones added seven.

The Bombers got back in scoring rhythm with a 25-15 final quarter.

Five players hit double figures for BSE. Olivia Campbell and C. Wilhour led the way with 17 each while Natalie Oberlink and Jade Whitehead tallied 11 each and Laney Baldrige finished with 10.

St. Anthony was led by Guy with 23 and Jones with 13.

The Bulldogs tallied a 40-29 win in junior varsity action. Anna Faber scored 12 and Rillie Willenborg 10 for the Bulldogs. BSE was led by Addie McWhorter with 10.

At Dieterich

Neoga trailed Dieterich 27-24 at halftime but had a 35-20 second half for a 58-47 National Trail Conference win Thursday.

Olivia Titus hit four field goals and was 13 of 14 at the line for 23 points. Also in double figures was Sydney Richards with 12 points on four field goals and four of four at the line. The Indians hit 23 of 26 free throws.

Dieterich was led by Brooke Locey with 13 points and Faith Aherin with 11.

Neoga improved to .500 at 15-15 and will host regional play next week.

The Indians also nabbed the junior varsity contest 32-15.

At Centralia

Altamont High School pushed its record to 24-5 on the season with a 62-33 win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Thursday.

Three players hit double figures for the Indians. Brooke Runge tallied 19 on eight field goals that included three trifectas, Allyson Hardiek with 17 on eight field goals and a free throw and Rachel Jackman with 14 points on seven field goals. Mary Guse was just out of double figures with three trifectas for nine points.

Altamont swept out to a 28-12 halftime lead and had a 22-11 third period.

The Indians are back in action tonight, finishing out regular season play. On the schedule is Senior NIght. Greenville junior varsity vs. Paris junior varsity will start the action at 6 p.m. The Altamont seniors will be honored at 7:20. The Altamont vs. Paris varsity contest will begin around 7:40 p.m.

At Louisville

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg traveled to North Clay (Louisville) as two National Trail Conference teams met and the homestanding Cardinals pulled out a 49-47 win Thursday.

The two teams played to a 17-17 opening quarter before North Clay moved ahead 28-24 at halftime. WSS then had an 11-8 third period to pull within 36-35. But North Clay had a 13-12 final period for the win.

North Clay was led by Lovett with 24 and Czyzewski with 10. Lovett had four three-pointers.

WSS was led by Hannah Hayes with 18 points and Mikala Nichols with 14 points and 15 rebounds. She also had seven steals.

Wayne City picked up a 60-57 non-conference victory over South Central in action Thursday evening.

The Cougars held a 21-13 opening quarter lead and led 38-26 at halftime. But Wayne City came back with a 17-7 third quarter to pull within 45-43 going into the final period then had a 17-12 run for the win.

South Central was led by Laney Webster with 21 points and Halle Smith with 15. The Cougars fall to 9-17.

Newton ended regular season play with a 60-34 win over Casey-Westfield Thursday evening.

The Eagles edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead then had a 14-8 second period and outscored the Warriors 35-16 in the second half.

Brooke Jansen led the Eagles with 14 points while Claire Carr added 13 and Whitney Zumbahlen 11. Carr led in rebounds with seven. Allison Harris and Jansen had five assists each. Carr led in steals with five.

Newton finishes the regular season with a 20-9 record and 5-3 in the Little Illini Conference. This is the sixth time in school history that the Eagles have reached the 20 win mark.

Cerro Gordo/Bement came calling and edged Cumberland, 36-34 in action Thursday.

CGB took an 11-9 opening quarter lead but the Pirates came back to lead 18-16 at halftime and 28-22 going into the final period. From there, Cerro Gordo/Bement then had a 14-6 final period to pull out the victory.

Cumberland was led by Zoe Mitchell with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sage Carr had 14 rebounds and four assists.
