Effingham St. Anthony claimed two wins over Newton in freshman/sophomore boys basketball action Monday evening.

The Bulldogs ran off to a 20-3 opening quarter lead and that was the game as St. Anthony went on to win 58-24.

Michael Martelli tallied 12 points while Eli Levitt added 10. Griffin Sehy and Jonathan Willenborg were on the verge of double figures with nine each.

Newton was led by Jansen and Buerster with eight points each.

In the sophomore contest, the Bulldogs pulled out a 41-33 win.

Newton moved ahead 13-12 in the opening quarter but the Bulldogs came back to take a 23-22 halftime lead. St. Anthony then led 38-27 going into the final period and tallied a 41-33 victory.

Craig Croy scored 17 points for the winners while Kyle Stewart added 11.

Newton was led by Schafer with 11.
