St. A Edges N. Clay in Girls Action on Senior Night

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs and the North Clay Lady Cardinals both entered Monday night's game with 11-14 records. The closeness of the game was indicative of the teams having the same records.

St. Anthony posted a 66-64 win on Senior Night at the Enlow Center. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

The first half was nip and tuck. North Clay led 20-16 after one quarter, and then each team scored 16 points in the second period to leave North Clay with a 36-32 lead at halftime. The Lady Cardinals at one point pushed their lead to 11 points, but St. Anthony came charging back. 

The Lady Bulldogs outscored North Clay 20-10 in the third quarter to lead 52-46 heading to the fourth period. North Clay came back to tie the game, and outscored the Bulldogs 18-14 in the final period, but ended up two points short.

St. Anthony shot 40% from the field, 27 of 67, including 4 of 15 threes. The Bulldogs made 7 of 12 free throws, turned the ball over just 11 times and grabbed a whopping 41 rebounds.

North Clay shot 42% from the field, 24 of 57, including 3 of 7 threes. The Cardinals made 13 of 19 foul shots, turned the ball over 15 times, and pulled down 39 rebounds.

Each team had a big scorer Monday; St. Anthony's Riley Guy and North Clay's Madison Lovett each scored 32 points. Guy was 12 of 25 from the field, while Lovett was 10 of 26. Guy had eight rebounds and an assist, while Lovett grabbed eight boards and had five assists.

Reese Jones scored 14 points for St. Anthony with eight rebounds and two assists, Lucy Fearday had seven points and seven rebounds, Grace Karolewicz scored six points with eight rebounds, Izzy Hakman four points, and Taylor Beasley three points.

Maleah Holkenbrink scored nine points for North Clay, Chloe Lewis had eight points with a whopping 18 rebounds, and Allison Czyzewski scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Also for North Clay: Brooke Kincaid four points, and Kadie Pierson one point.

St. Anthony improved to 12-14 on the season with Brownstown/St. Elmo remaining to finish out the regular season on Senior Night at Brownstown, while North Clay is in action both Tuesday and Thursday to wrap up regular season play. Both teams get to host regionals next week.

St. Anthony won the JV game 36-20. Lucy Fearday led St. Anthony with 11 points, while Allison Czyzewski led North Clay with 12 points.
