Stewardson-Strasburg and Martinsville claimed victories in the Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Boys Basketball Regional Saturday.

Stew-Stras defeated Windsor, 23-13 in the opener.

In the second contest, Martinsville edged Effingham Sacred Heart, 31-30.

Stew-Stras will now face Sigel St. Michael at 6 p.m. Monday while Martinsville meets Newton St. Thomas at 7:15 p.m.

 

Class 2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Three games were contested Saturday at the St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional.

In the opener, North Clay (Louisville) downed South Central, 46-31.

Effingham St. Anthony then won over Altamont, 60-26.

In the final game of the day, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged Ramsey, 42-30.

CHBC trailed Ramsey, 10-8 after the opening quarter and 19-17 at halftime. CHBC had a 14-7 third period run as Jaxon Manley and Clayton Wojcik knocked in a three-pointer each.

Gage Lorton finished strong in the final period with nine points and tallied 22 for the game.

St. Elmo/Brownstown will face North Clay at 6:15 p.m. today while St. Anthony takes on CHBC at 7:30.

Class 8-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Dieterich was the lone local team to advance in the Casey-Westfield Regional Saturday.

Dieterich, seeded third, defeated sixth-seeded Oblong, 46-29 in the third contest of the day.

In the opener, Kansas won over Hutsonville/Palestine, 43-28.

The second contest went to Paris Crestwood over Neoga, 57-19.

Tonight's games feature Casey-Westfield against Kansas at 5:30 followed by Paris Crestwood taking on Dieterich at 6:45.

 

Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Jasper County fell to Marshall in the opening of three games at the Robinson Nuttall Regional Saturday.

Marshall edged out to a 14-10 opening quarter lead then had a 13-2 second period. Jasper County came back with an 18-14 third period but couldn't get over that second period and fell 51-39.

Isaac Flowers led Jasper County with 25 points. The squad finishes the season at 9-10.

In the second game, Robinson Nuttall claimed a 56-43 win over Cumberland.

The final game of the day went to Lawrenceville Parkview over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 56-16.

Tonight's games feature Teutopolis against Marshall at 6 p.m. followed by Robinson Nuttall facing Lawrenceville Parkview at 7:15.

Class 8-4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham saw its season come to a close Saturday in the Tayloville Regional.

The Mustangs fell to Mattoon, 33-28. Effingham stepped out to an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 14-10 at halftime. Mattoon came back with a9-2 third quarter to lead 19-16 going into the final period then had a 14-12 run.

Effingham was led in scoring by Raddatz with 10.

In the second contest, Mount Zion downed Taylorville, 58-22.

In the semifinals, Charleston defeated Mattoon, 46-32 and Mount Zion won over Stephen Decatur, 38-32.

Charleston will meet Mount Zion tonight for the championship at 6.

SIJHSAA Class S Regional

Altamont Lutheran won the championship of the Class S St. Peter Lutheran Regional Friday.

ALIS downed host St. Peter, 57-23.

Altamont Lutheran will compete in the Class S State Tournament Saturday, February 8 against Our Lady of Mount Carmel  at 3:45 p.m.

 

Clay City Sixth-Grade Tournament

In first round play of the Clay City Sixth-Grade Basketball Tournament, Olney St. Joe won over Clay City, 32-21, North Clay edged West Salem, 24-20, Allendale-St. Mary's Co-op downed Edwards County (Albion), 27-12 and Cisne beat Newton St. Thomas, 46-25.

In the consolation semifinals, West Salem won over Clay City, 42-23, Newton St. Thomas downed Albion, 45-14.

In the winner bracket semifinals, North Clay edged Olney St. Joseph, 32-31 and Cisne won over Allendale-St. Mary's Co-op, 43-15.

The consolation championship went to Newton St. Thomas over West Salem, 58-25. In the third place game, Allendale-St. Mary's Co-op defeated Olney St. Joe, 45-35 and the championship went to Cisne over North Clay, 39-22.
