Newton Captures Win In LIC Boys Tourney

PARIS -- Newton High School nabbed a 56-31 victory over Red Hill (Bridgeport) in the consolation round of the Little Illini Conference Boys Basketball Tournament Monday.

The Eagles swept out to a 15-4 opening quarter lead and led 30-10 at halftime.

Kyle Schafer led Newton with 22 points while Justin Zumbahlen chipped in with 10.

Newton, now 13-9 on the season, advances to a Wednesday contest against Paris at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the consolation championship Friday.

The tournament continues tonight with Marshall taking on Casey-Westfield at 6 followed by Olney facing Robinson at 7:30 in winner bracket play.
