Finals Set For NTC Girls Basketball Tourney

BEECHER CITY -- The finals are set for the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament after games Thursday evening.

 

Altamont and Brownstown/St. Elmo moved into the championship game.

Altamont handed Effingham St. Anthony a 61-29 loss. The Indians stepped out to a 17-8 opening quarter lead and led 38-12 at halftime.

Mary Guse tallied 19 points for the Indians, connecting on five field goals that included three trifectas and was six of eight at the line. Brooke Runge chipped in with 15 on seven field goals that included a three-pointer.

The Bulldogs were led by Riley Guy with nine points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo upset Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 55-53 in overtime.

BSE held a 13-10 opening quarter lead but CHBC moved ahead 21-20 at halftime. The third quarter was BSE's with a 16-12 run. The Bobcats came back with a 15-12 final period to knot the score at 48-48. BSE then had a 7-5 overtime for the win.

Three players hit double figures for BSE. Claire Wilhour tallied 24 points on nine field goals that inculded two trifectas and four of six at the line. Olivia Campbell added 15 and Natalie Oberlink 14.

In a consolation bracket contest, North Clay (Louisville) won over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 48-31.

The Cardinals stepped out to a 26-22 halftime lead. The Hatchets came back in the third quarter to pull within 33-30 going into the final period when North Clay had a 15-1 run.

Lovett led North Clay with 15 points while Czyzewski added 14 and Lewis 11.

WSS was led by Hannah Hayes with 16.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday. Altamont will face BSE for the championship at 7 p.m. St. Anthony and CHBC square off for third place at 5:30. The fifth place contest features South Central against Dieterich at 2:30 followed by the consolation championship with Neoga against North Clay at 4.
