Shoes Win Easily at Highland Tourney, Eagles Drop LIC Game

HIGHLAND -- Teutopolis High School took the first step in opening round play at the 34th Annual Scott Credit Union Highland Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes tallied an easy 55-12 win over Troy Triad. T-town edged out to a 15-10 opening quarter lead and held Triad to only one point in the second period to push ahead 28-11 at hafltime.

Three players finished in double figures for the Shoes. Lexie Niebrugge and Olivia Niemerg scored 14 points each while Ciara Roepke chipped in with 11. Niemerg connected on four three-pointers while Niebrugge contributed three.

Roepke led in steals with five and assists with two. L. Niebrugge led in rebounds with six. 

In other games Saturday, Bethalto Civic Memorial defeated Belleville Althoff 73-15, Collinsville won over Breese Central 50-39, Belleville West downed Salem 61-55, O'Fallon bounced Taylorville 55-17, Nashville defeated Belleville East 58-45, Breese Mater Dei downed Hillsboro 55-29 and Highand handed Okawville a 58-39 loss.

T-town will be back in action tonight in the final game of the evening against Belleville West at 8:30. The winner moves into the final four.

At Robinson

Newton fell in opening round play of the Little Illini Conference Tournament at Robinson High School Saturday.

Marshall stepped out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead and the Eagles could never get in a groove and fell 48-36.

There were no Eagles players in double figures. Claire Carr led with eight points.

Newton falls to 16-6 on the season.

In other LIC contests Saturday, Paris won over Robinson 60-27, Olney downed Casey-Westfield 54-34 and Lawrenceville defeated Flora 48-26.

Newton drops into the consolation bracket where it will face Robinson at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

At Villa Grove

Cumberland fell in opening round play of the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament Saturday.

The Pirates lost to Argenta-Oreana, no score was available.

In the other contest at Villa Grove, Cerro Gordo-Bement won over Arcola 36-33.

In games at Broadlands-Heritage, Okaw Valley downed Decatur LSA 59-41 and Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond won over Blue Ridge 45-23.

Cumberland will now face Blue Ridge at 7:30 p.m. today.
