ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo handed Beecher City a 42-33 loss in opening round play at the Class 1A St. Elmo Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening.

St. Elmo took a 10-4 opening quarter lead and led 16-12 at halftime. Beecher City came roaring back with a 19-10 third quarter run to lead 31-26 going into the final quarter. However, St. Elmo put together the whole package in the final period for a 16-2 run and the victory.

Connor Beasley led the winners with 16 points. Garrett Bartels chipped in with nine points. Beecher City was led by Brandon Gardner with 10 points and Brady Barnes with nine.

St. Elmo advances with a 17-11 record and will face top-seeded Nokomis at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

CLASS 1A EDWARDS COUNTY (ALBION) REGIONAL

North Clay (Louisville) advaned from opening round play in the Edwards County Regional with a 47-31 win over Noble.

The Cardinals held Noble scoreless in the opening qurater for a 12-0 lead and led 26-10 at halftime. North Clay then had a 16-7 third period run.

Logan Hildebrand, a 6-foot-4 senior, tallied 17 points for the winners.

In the opening game of the evening, Red Hill (Bridgeport) defeated Clay City 58-33.

Red Hill advances to meet top-seeded Cisne at 6 p.m. Wednesday while North Clay will face second-seeded Edwards County (Albion) at 8 p.m.

CLASS 1A DIETERICH REGIONAL

Number five-seeded Neoga claimed a 67-47 win over No. 4 seeded Hutsonville/Palestine in the Class 1A Dieterich Regional Monday evening.

Neoga jumped out to a 23-10 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Jake Baker tallied 28 points for the Indians while Wyatt Krikie chipped in with 18. Neoga advances with a 12-16 record to face top-seeded Oblong at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Hutsonville/Palestine finishes the season with a 13-14 record. Dylan Webster scored 14 and Tyler Heflin 10.

Tonight's games feature Dieterich against Martinsville at 6 p.m. and Stewardson-Strasburg against Windsor at 8 p.m.

CLASS 2A NEWTON REGIONAL

Marshall ended Cumberland's season in opening round play of the Newton Regional Monday with a 60-35 victory.

Marshall held the lead from the get-go, with an 18-9 run in the opening quarter. Marshall had a 19-4 third period charge.

The Pirates had only one player in double figures, Colton Ingram with 11 points and five rebounds. The Pirates end the season with a 4-25 record.

Marshall advances to face top-seeded Robinson tonight at 7:30.

TICKET INFO: Newton High School will begin selling tickets for Wednesday night's game with Casey-Westfield today after noon for season ticket holders and students. The general public may purchase tickets Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
