Bulldogs Win Easily, Hearts Down T'ville, Area Boys Basketball Roundup

NEOGA -- Effingham St. Anthony got on track early, took charge and never looked back with a 62-34 National Trail Conference boys basketball victory over Neoga Tuesday evening.

 

Kaden Fearday led the Bulldogs in the opening quarter, knocking in three baskets which included two three-pointers for eight points while Jack Hoene nailed four of four at the free throw line and Connor Walk put in two baskets. The Bulldogs swept out to a 19-7 lead.

Despite two players out with injury, the Bulldogs didn't miss a beat.

Five players knocked in points in the second quarter for a 36-17 lead. The Bulldogs outscored the Indians 17-6 in the third period.

Three players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs. Jaccob Dust finished with 17 points while Fearday tallied 13 and Walk 12. St. Anthony pushed its record to 15-2.

Neoga had two players hit double digits. Trevor Roy led the way with 13 points while Paci McClure chipped in with 12. The Indians drop to 14-5 on the season.

St. Anthony also was a winner in the junior varsity contest 35-25. Moore scored 13 and Hotze 12 for the Bulldogs. Neoga was led by Young with 13.

In the freshman/sophomore game, St .Anthony won 54-25. Eli Levitt scored 10 for the winners. Neoga was led by Peters with 10.

At Taylorville

Effingham High School claimed a 69-53 Apollo Conference victory over Taylorville Tuesday evening.

The Hearts edged out to an 18-12 opening quarter lead and led 32-24 at halftime.They pushed that to 52-42 going into the final period.

Parker Wolfe scored 33 for the Hearts connecting on nine field goals that included six three-pointers and nine of 13 at the line. Drew Thompson finished with 21 points on seven field goals including five three-pointers and two of four at the line. The Hearts connected on 12 three-pointers in the contest.

The Hearts also won the junior varsity game, 47-40. Jackson Lee led EHS with 19 points.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown edged out to a 9-7 opening quarter lead on Ramsey. The Eagles held the two point lead at halftime, 21-19 before outscoring Ramsey 18-15 in the third period and then holding off the Rams for a 56-52 Egyptian-Illini Conference win Tuesday.

Andy Goldsborough tallied 17 points for the winners while Bryton Pruett added 13. Goldsborough led in rebounds with nine and had two steals. Jace McWhorter had two steals. Gavyn Smith led in assists with four. Jacob Baron had five blocked shots.

SEB improved to 1-0 in the EIC, 9-7 overall.

At Atlamont

Mowequa Central A&M held a 43-28 halftime score on Altamont and went on to claim an 82-59 non-conference victory Tuesday evening.

Central A&M had five players hit double digits in even scoring. Connor Heaton led the way with 23 while Griffin Andricks and Connor Hutchens scored 16 each. Brycen Burgener added 15 and Jacob Paradee chipped in with 10.

The Indians' Kaden Eirhart led the way with 26 points on eight field goals that included five three-pointers and was five of six at the line. Aidan Jahraus and Noah Teasley added 11 points each.

Altamont dropped to 14-3 on the season.

In junior varsity action, Central A&M edged the Indians, 53-51. Altamont was led by Will Schultz with 12, Jerod Ruffner with 11 and Tyler Robbins with 10.

Madison zipped out to a 19-7 opening quarter lead and went on for a 62-55 victory over Teutopolis in Tuesday action.

The Wooden Shoes trailed 37-21 at halftime then had a 16-6 third period to pull wtihin six but Madison got back on track in the final quarter.

T-town was led by Jordan Hardiek with 21 and Evan Addis with 16.

Dieterich tallied a non-conference win over Odin in Tuesday evening competition.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 15-13 opening quarter lead and led by that same two point margin, 27-25 at halftime. Dieterich then had an 18-16 third quarter and finished off strong, hitting nine of 12 free throws, in the final quarter.

Collin Hartke led the way for the Maroons with 21 points while Cole Niebrugge added 14 and Derek Kuhl 11.
