Boys, Girls Frosh/Soph Basketball -- Jan. 3-4

Salem came calling at Effingham and downed the Hearts 41-23 in freshman/sophomore girls basketball action Friday.

The Wildcats took a 9-4 opening quarter lead and led 11-9 at halftime. The Wildcats then had a 30-14 second half.

The Hearts were led by Waymoth with six points.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed both the freshman and sophomore boys basketball contests over Effingham Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes won the freshman game, 56-51 in double overtime. The score was tied at 8-8 after the opening quarter. T-town moved ahead 18-15 at halftime. Effingham pulled within two going into the final period and then tied the score sending the game into overtime.

In the first overtime period, both teams scored five. In the second overtime, T-town had a 6-1 run for the win. The Shoes were led by C. Siemer with 13, C. Bloemer with 12 and L. Roepke with 11.

EHS was led by Estrada with 13, Rinkel with 12 and Donaldson with 11.

In sophomore action, T-town was a 40-31 winner. The Shoes led 17-16 at halftime then had a 14-2 third period run. Effingham came back in the final period only to fall short.

D. Pruemer and S. Buscher led the Shoes with 10 points each.

Effingham was led by Hardiek with 10.
