Altamont Second, WSS Third, S. Central Fifth In Tourneys

Goreville edged out to a 17-12 opening quarter lead. Denver Duckwitz connected on two three-pointers to keep the Indians within striking distance.
But Goreville continued with a 20-16 second period run to lead 37-28 at halftime. The Blackcats had a 13-10 third period.
Altamont mounted a comeback with a 27-24 final period run. Kaden Eirhart scored 14 in that quarter while Aidan Jahraus tallied eight. But the Indians couldn't make up the deficit.
Eirhart finished with 19 points while Jahraus added 18, Noah Teasley 14 and Duckwitz chipped in with 11.
That was the first loss of the season for the Indians who fall to 11-1 on the season.
In other games, Marissa-Coulterville edged Christopher 59-52 for third place, Sesser-Valier took a two point win over Red Bud 43-41 for fifth place. Sparta finished with a 65-53 victory over New Athens for the consolation championship.

Tri-County Holiday Tournament
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed third place at the Tri-County Holiday Basketball Tournament Monday.
The Hatchets edged out to a 10-6 opening quarter lead on Martinsville then held a 20-15 halftime tally. The Bluestreaks came back with an 11-8 third period to pull within 28-26 going into the final quarter. But the Hatchets got tough again with a 10-6 run for the six-point victory.
Gavan Wernsing was the lone player for WSS to finish in double figures with 17. He connected on five field goals and was seven of 11 at the line.
Jordan Wittenberg was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Hatchets are now 8-7 on the season.
In other games, Paris edged Tri-County 60-57 for the championship. Westville took a 48-38 overtime win over Argenta-Oreana for fifth place. Hutsonville/Palestine downed Chrisman 54-50 for seventh place.

Vandalia Holiday Tournament
South Central finished in fifth place at the Vandalia Holiday Tournament Monday evening with a 55-30 win over Cumberland.
The Cougars edged ahead 12-7 in the first period then had a 14-1 second quarter run to lead 26-8 at halftime.
Hester tallied 16 points while Keenin Willshire added 14 for the winners. The Cougars connected on five three-pointers as Hester hit four.
Cumberland was led by Wyatt Napier and Ross Hemmen with seven points each.
South Central improved to 7-6 on the season.
In other games, Pana downed Vandalia 73-40 for the championship. Okaw Valley edged Meridian 57-52 for third palce. Shelbyville defeated Patoka 75-70 for seventh place. Ninth place went to Flora over Father McGivney, 54-41.
