EHS Freshmen Win Apollo Conference Tournament

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School claimed the championship of the Apollo Conference Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts defeated Mattoon 49-32. EHS whipped out to a 22-8 opening quarter lead behind Jared Minor's nine points and five each from Brady Jackson and  Drew Vasquez. The lead stood at 34-15 at halftime and 49-24 going into the final quarter.

Minor finished with 15 points while Vasquez chipped in with 11 and Jackson nine. Mattoon was led by Braden Smith with 15 points.

In the third place game, Paris defeated Salem 76-56. The fifth place game went to Charleston over Mount Zion, no score was reported.
