T-town Nabs Two, EHS One at Charleston, Bulldogs, Indians Lose Twice at Mattoon

CHARLESTON -- Teutopolis and Effingham squared off in the third game of the day at the Charleston Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament Friday.

The Wooden Shoes came out a 56-36 winner. EHS actually took the opening quarter lead, 9-7. But T-town came roaring back with an 18-6 second period and never looked back.

Olivia Niemerg led the Shoes with 17 points while Isabella Hardiek added 13 and Ciara Roepke 10.

The Hearts were led by Katie Carie with eight points and Taylor Armstrong with seven.

Teutopolis then downed Cairo, 77-32. The Wooden Shoes took no time in zipping out to a 21-7 opening quarter lead and led 48-18 at halftime.

Niemerg finished with 20 points for the winners while Roepke added 17 and Kaitlyn Schumacher 13.

Effingham finished out the evening by beating Charleston, 55-32. No report was received on the game.

Today will find T-town against Charleston at noon while Effingham takes on Cairo at 1:30. The rest of the day's schedule will be according to win-loss records in pool play. The championship is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Mattoon Holiday Tournament

Effingham St. Anthony split victories Friday at the Mattoon Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Bulldogs faced Galesburg in the second game of the day and fell 57-21.

Galesburg edged out to a 14-7 opening quarter lead then had a 22-3 second period that put the game on ice.

St. Anthony was led by Lucy Fearday with 12 points.

Decatur St. Teresa then took a 67-37 win over the Bulldogs.

St. Anthony held a 26-17 halftime lead then went to work with a 42-20 second half.

Fearday tallied 22 for the Bulldogs connecting on five field goals and 12 of 18 free throws.

Altamont fell in two games Friday. Olney edged the Indians, 58-54. Mattoon then took a three point win over the Indians, 60-57.

Today's finals have St. Anthony against Vandalia at noon for seventh place, Decatur St. Teresa meeting Galesburg at 1:30 for fifth place, Altamont taking on Olney for third place at 3 and Mattoon meeting Mahomet-Seymour at 4:30 for the championship.

Arthur-Lovinton/Atwood-Hammond Knights Classic

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pounded Mount Zion in this tournament Friday, 62-35.

Shelbvyille won over Cumberland, 41-31.

WSS then took a 73-20 win over Chrisman. Cumberland fell to Flanagan 47-42.

In today's finals, Cumberland meets Chrisman for seventh place at 1 p.m. and WSS takes on Flanagan at 2:30 for fifth place. Shelbyville meets ALAH at 4 for third and Sullivan takes on Mount Zion at 5:30 for the championship.

 

Monticello Holiday Tournament

Neoga fell twice at the Monticello Holiday Tournament Friday.

The Indians lost to Ridgeview 56-36 and then fell to Clinton 61-54.

In today's finals, Neoga meets GCMS at 2:30 for seventh place. Stark County takes on Clinton at 4 for fifth place. Tuscola faces PBL at 6 for third place and Monticello squares off against Ridgeview at 7:30 for the championship.
