T-town Takes Two Wins, St. A One, EHS Suffers Two Losses

Teutopolis claimed two victories while Effingham St. Anthony tallied one at the Effingham/Teutopolis Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Friday evening.
In games at Teutopolis, St. Anthony tallied a 70-63 win in overtime over Mattoon.
The Green Wave held a 20-14 opening quarter lead but St. Anthony came back to pull within two at halftime. The Bulldogs still trailed by two in the third period but tied the score sending the contest into overtime. The Bulldogs then had an 11-4 OT run to pull out the victory.
Jaccob Dust scored 22 while Aaron Webb had 14 and Kaden Fearday 10 for the Bulldogs.
Then it was T-town's turn to take a win, handily over Lawrenceville, 62-30.
The Wooden Shoes ran out to a 17-8 opening quarter lead and led 30-14 at halftime and that was the game.
Evan Wermert scored 14 while Jordan Hardiek finished with 10 as nine players scored in the game. Mitch Hardiek and Evan Addis contributed eight each.
Then it was a meeting between Teutopolis and St. Anthony.
The Wooden Shoes came out a 62-49 victor. St. Anthony held a 13-11 opening quarter lead but the Wooden Shoes pulled within 28-27 at halftime. T-town then broke loose with a 21-10 third quarter run.
Wermert led the way with 16 points while Luke Ungrund added 13 and Brock Deters 10.
St. Anthony was ed by Dust with 22 and Jack Hoene with 11.
Over at Effingham, the Hearts went up against two tough teams and fell in both games.
Chicago Corliss claimed a 55-34 win. Corliss took a 37-22 halftime lead and had a 17-12 second half.
Effingham had only one player in double figures. Parker Wolfe scored 19 points. Nate Thompson chipped in with nine.
In the second game for the Hearts, they went up against Class 1A top-ranked Central A&M and fell 75-51.
Central A&M edged out to a 15-10 opening quarter lead as the Hearts struggled with turnovers. EHS coughed up the ball five times in the opening quarter and 10 by halftime. Central A&M held a 32-25 halftime lead then went to work in the third period.
A&M couldn't miss to start the quarter knocking in three trifectas and hitting six of six before finally missing. They finished with a 24-17 third period run and outdistanced the Hearts 19-9 in the final period.
Turnovers were the problem as EHS finished with 17 for the contest. N. Thompson led the way in scoring with 25 while P. Wolfe contributed 15.
Today's finals feature St. Anthony taking on Antioch at 10 a.m. for 11th place. Effingham will meet Chicago Brooks at 11:30 a.m. for seventh place. T-town squares off against Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin at 4:30 for the consolation championship.
