EHS Nabs Win, St. A, T-town Drop Games at Tourney

The Hearts went overtime to down Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, 78-75. Sacred Heart-Grffin took a 14-11 opening quarter lead but the Hearts came back with a run in the second period to lead 33-26 at halftime. Effingham's Nate Thompson and Parker Wolfe provided the one-two scoring punch in that second period. Thompson hit three field goals and was two of two at the line for nine points while Parker Wolfe added seven.
Sacred Heart-Griffin came back with a 22-14 third quarter to lead by a point going into the final period. From there the Hearts had a 23-22 edge to knot the score and send the game into overtime.
Tate Niebrugge connected for a three-pointer, P. Wolfe scored four and Garrott Wolfe then nailed a free throw as the Hearts pulled out the victory.
P. Wolfe finished with 31 points while N. Thompson added 26.
In other games at Effingham, Champaign Centennial defeated Antioch, 39-27, Central A&M beat Charleston, 64-56 and Chicago Corliss bounced Dixon, 60-26.
Pleasant Plains captured a 52-49 win over St. Anthony at Teutopolis. Pleasant Plains edged out to a 10-8 opening quarter lead but the Bulldogs came back with a 13-5 second period to lead 21-15 at halftime.
Then it was time for Pleasant Plains to go on a run in the third period with a 21-13 score to lead 37-34 going into the final quarter. The Bulldogs couldn't get over the hump as both teams tallied 15.
Jaccob Dust led the Bulldogs with 19 points while Jack Hoene added 11 and Aaron Webb 10.
Then it was an overtime game as Teutopolis fell to Chicago Brooks, 57-52.
The Wooden Shoes had a terrible opening quarter, as Brock Deters was the lone player scoring one point on a free throw. Brooks held an 8-1 lead.
But the Shoes got untracked with a 14-9 second period to pull within 17-15 at halftime. T-town then had an 18-15 third period but Brooks pulled back and tied the scoring in the final quarter, sending the contest into overtime.
In the overitme period, Brooks had a 7-2 run for the win.
T-town was led by Evan Wermert and Evan Addis with 13 points each.
In other games at T-town, Lincoln Way East downeMd attoon 59-41 and Oak Lawn won over Lawrenceville, 77-51.
Today's action finds St. Anthony against Mattoon at 9:30 a.m. and T-town facing Lawrenceville at 11. The Hearts meet Chicago Corliss at 2 p.m. The rest of the day's schedule will be according to wins and losses.
