Altamont Wins Battle Of Unbeatens, Girls Area BB Roundup

ALTAMONT -- Both teams came in unbeaten in the National Trail Conference and overall Thursday evening as Altamont played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in girls high school basketball.

 

The Indians took the momentum early and went on to beat Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 73-51. Altamont moved out to a 23-16 opening quarter lead and led 40-26 at halftime.

Allyson Hardiek and Rachel Jackman were unstoppable with 24 and 22 points each. Two other players finished in double figurse as Brooke Runge tallied 11 and Ellie McManaway 10. The Indians improve to 4-0 in the conference and 10-0 overall.

CHBC was led by Jaelyn Robertson with 17 points. Carsen Burks and Lani Morrison had eight points each. The Bobcats dropped to 2-1 in the conference and 9-1 overall.

The Bobcats won the junior varsity contest, 46-21.

At Newton

Newton stepped out to a 17-9 opening quarter lead and went on to down Effingham St. Anthony, 57-34 in action Thursday.

Whitney Zumbahlen scored 22 for the winners while Claire Carr added 11. Zumbahlen also led in rebounds with six while Carr led in steals with three. Allison Harris had seven assists.

The Eagles are now 8-4 on the season. The squad travels to the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, Indiana Saturday for a game against Neoga at 10:30 a.m.

St. Anthony was led by Lucy Fearday with 15 points.

Newton hosted Teutopolis in junior varsity action and lost, 46-20.

In a varsity-only contest Wednesday, Newton trounced Red Hill (Bridgeport), 51-19. The Eagles held a 25-8 halftime lead.

Brooke Jansen scored 16 for the winners. Carr had five rebounds while Harris had five assists and four steals.

Brownstown/St. Elmo picked up a 68-48 National Trail Conference win over Neoga in action Thursday.

In the first half, BSE had 19-13 first and second quarters to lead 38-26 at halftime. Olivia Campbell led the way for the winners with 24 points while Claire Wilhour added 14 and Natalie Oberlink with 13.

Neoga was led by Phillips with nine and Partlow with eight points each. Oberlink led in rebounds with 10 and had two steals. Audrey Wilhour led in steals with three and had two assists. C. Wilhour led in assists with three.The Indians drop to 7-6 

Neoga travels to the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, Indiana Saturday for a game against Newton at 10:30 a.m.

Neoga won the junior varsity game over BSE by a 29-19 score.

South Central fell to Webber Township (Bluford), 57-49 in Thursday competition.

Webber edged out to a 14-13 opening quarter lead but South Central held a 25-24 halftime lead. Webber then had a 15-8 third quarter and an 18-16 final period.

South Central was led by Laney Webster with 19 points. The Cougars drop to 3-5 on the season.

Flora came calling and downed North Clay (Louisville), 48-30 in action Thursday evening.

The Wolves ran out to a 23-13 opening quarter lead and that was the game. The Wolves were led by Raegan Henson with 14 points.

North Clay was led by M. Lovett with 19, scoring nine in the opening quarter and knocking in two three-pointers.

Flora also claimed the junior varsity contest, 35-19.
