S. Central, SEB Nab Tourney Wins, N. Clay Wins At Wayne City

ST. ELMO -- Mulberry Grove, South Central and St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed victories Thursday evening at the St. Elmo/Brownstown Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament.

 

Mulberry Grove downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the opening contest of the evening, 62-39.

Mulberry Grove took a 12-7 opening quarter lead on the scoring of  W. Criner with 10 of the 12 points, and led 26-21 at halftime. Mulberry Grove led 44-35 going into the final quarter then had an 18-4 run to finish out.

Criner tallied 29 while Scoggins added 14 and Goodin 11.

CHBC was led by Daniel Lucas with 14 and Kade Persinger with 13.

In the next contest, South Central handed Ramsey a 57-28 loss.

The Cougars moved ahead 14-9 after the opening quarter then had a 26-9 second period and that was the game.

Willshire led the Cougars with 17 points while Brandt chipped in with 15.

In the final contest of the evening, St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed a 41-36 victory over Patoka.

SEB tallied an 11-8 opening quarter lead and led 22-14 at halftime and 30-22 going into the final quarter.

Only one player hit double figures for the Eagles. Jacob Baron tallied 18 points.

Tonight's games feature Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg against Ramsey at 6:15 and Cumberland facing South Central at 7:45 p.m. The tournament comes to a close Saturday.

At Wayne City

North Clay (Louisville) picked up its second victory in the Wayne City Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday.

The Cardinals trailed Grayville, 16-14 after the opening quarter and 32-31 at halftime. North Clay then came out to go crazy in the second half with a 20-10 third quarter and a 22-16 final period for the 73-58 victory.

North Clay had three players hit double figures. Luke Fleener tallied 18 while Lane Holkenbrink added 17 and Ethan Bible 12.

In the other two games, Cisne edged Red Hill (Bridgeport), 37-36 while Crab Orchard won over Webber Township (Bluford), 54-46.

Tonight's games feature North Clay against Cisne at 6 and Gallatin County taking on Wayne City at 7:30.

The finals will be held Saturday. In Pool A, Crab Orchard is 3-0, Gallatin County 1-1, Webber Township 1-2 and Wayne City 0-2. In Pool B, Cisne and North  Clay are both 2-0 while Red Hill is 1-2 and  Grayville 0-3.
