C'land, SEB Nab Tournament Wins, Wayne City Tourney Scores

ST. ELMO -- Cumberland, St. Elmo/Brownstown and Patoka picked up victories in the opening ruond of play at the St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening.

 

The Pirates of Cumberland opened with a 58-40 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

Cumberland edged out to a 16-13 opening quarter lead but WSS came back to pull within 25-24 at halftime. Cumberland then had a 19-4 third period to put the game in the win column.

Brennyn Cutts and Ross Hemmen provided the one-two scoring punch for the Pirates with 19 and 18 points respectively. Also in double figures was Boldt with 10.

The Hatchets were led by Jordan Wittenbreg with 18.

St. Elmo/Brownstown then handily defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 81-60. The Eagles ripped out to a 25-13 opening quarter lead and held a 43-31 halftime tally. They pushed ahead 62-44 going into the final period.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Jacob Baron led the way with 15 while Jace McWhorter and Andy Goldsborough tallied 13 each.

CHBC was led by Jadon Robertson with 21 and Daniel Lucas with 20.

In the final contest, Patoka won over Mulberry  Grove, 58-45.

The games continue tonight as Mulberry Grove faces CHBC at 5:45 followed by South Central against Ramsey at 7:15 and SEB taking on Patoka at 8:45.

At Wayne City

The Wayne City Boys Basketball Tournament had three games on tap Wednesday evening.

Red Hill (Bridgeport) downed Grayville, 58-44. Crab Orchard then defeated Gallatin County, 68-65. Webber Township won over Wayne City, 52-38.

In Pool A, Crab Orchard is leading with a 2-0 record followed by Gallatin County 1-1, Webber Township 1-1 and Wayne City 0-2. In Pool B, North Clay (Louisville) is 1-0 followed by Cisne 1-0, Red Hill 1-1 and Grayville 0-2.

Tonight's games feature Cisne against Red Hill at 5:30, Webber Township facing Crab Orchard at 7 and North Clay against Grayville at 8:30.
