Effingham finished second in the Taylorville Freshman Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts opened with a 28-12 win over Williamsville. EHS broke a 7-7 opening quarter tie with an 8-2 second period and held Wililamsville scoreless in the third quarter to push ahead 22-9.

Wise tallied 10 for the Hearts.

Effingham then edged Chatham Glenwood, 47-46 in double overtime.

The Hearts held a 21-10 halftime lead and 25-20 going into the final period. Glenwood outscored the Hearts 12-7 to send the game into the first overtime period and then the Hearts went the second overtime for the victory.

Allie scored 15 for the Hearts while Mapes tallied 14.

That moved the Hearts into the championship game where they fell to Pana, 41-31.

Pana ran off to a 17-0 opening quarter lead and the Hearts could never recover.

Allie led EHS with 16 points.

At Farina

North Clay (Louisville) competed in the South Central Freshman/Sophomore Boys Basketball Shootout and came away with a 1-1 record.

North Clay tallied a 39-28 win over Salem. North Clay held a 20-13 halftime lead and led 39-16 going into the final quarter.

Bryton Griffy led the way with eight points.

South Central then downed North Clay, 52-45. South Central pushed into a 25-17 halftime lead then had a 17-9 third quarter.

The Cougars were led by Dodson with 21 and Dun with 12.

North Clay was led by Brady Ingram with 13 and Levi Smith with 11.
