Both local schools, Sigel St. Michael and North Clay (Louisville), were defeated at Class 8A Girls State Basketball Tournaments Saturday.

In Class 8-1A at Clinton Junior High School, St. Michael fell to Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell, 64-13.

Lincoln West took charge in the opening quarter with a 20-3 score and that was the game.

The Sharpshooters were led by Kaitlyn Budde and Karli Hotze with four points each. St. Michael ends the season with a 21-4 record.

In other games, Mount Pulaski defeated Monmouth ICS, 48-28, Ashland A-C Central edged LaSalle Trinity Catholic, 33-31 and Cissna Park downed Peoria Hollis, 38-27. In semifinal play, Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell trounced Mount Pulaski, 63-13 and Ashland A-C Central controlled Cissna Park, 37-7.

Mount Pulaski meets Cissna Park for third place at 6 p.m. Thursday while Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell meets Ashland A-C Central at 7:30 for the state championship.

Class 8-2A State Tournament

North Clay trailed Peoria St. Vincent de Paul 12-9 after the opening quarter but came charging back with a 16-4 second period to lead 25-16 at halftime. However, St. Vincent came back with a 16-3 third quarter and a 15-0 final period for the 47-28 victory.

North Clay was led by Camdyn Tappendorf with 10 points and Miah Ballard and Alexis VanDyke with nine each. North Clay finishes the season with a 13-8 record.

In other games, Winchester defeated Paris Crestwood, 35-25, Springfield Blessed Sacrament downed Lockport Taft, 32-11 and Carthage won over Bloomimgton Corpus Christi, 33-30. In the second round, Winchester edged Springfield Blessed Sacrament, 42-40 and Peoria St. Vincent de Paul defeated Carthage, 40-25.

Springfield Blessed Sacrament faces Carthage at 6 p.m. Thursday for third place while Winchester takes on Peoria St. Vincent de Paul at 7:30 for the state championship.
