SIGEL --  The National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament got underway during the weekend at Sigel St. Michael.

In the opening games Friday, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Neoga while South Central won over Windsor.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed Altamont, 51-27. CHBC opened with a 14-5 first quarter lead and led 26-16 at halftime and 41-22 going into the final period.

AJ Radloff led CHBC with 15 points. Altamont was led by Schafer with 18.

In Saturday play, Sigel St. Michael downed St. Elmo/Brownstown, 50-19. North Clay (Louisville) won over Sacred Heart, 38-31 while South Central defeated Stewardson-Strasburg, 36-23. Dieterich then downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 43-31.

North Clay trailed Sacred Heart, 12-10 in the opening quarter but came back to lead 22-19 at halftime. Sacred Heart had a 12-3 third period run to lead 31-27 going into the final quarter. North Clay then held the Shamrocks scoreless to take the 38-31 victory.

North Clay was led by L. Graves with 19 points. Sacred Heart was led by Wallace with 12 points.

Dieterich defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 43-31. Dieterich took a 26-9 halftime lead and that was the game.

Dieterich was led by T. Will with 14 points and Westendorf with 12. CHBC was led by Radloff with nine.

The tournament continues tonight in consolation bracket play as St. Elmo/Brownstown faces Sacred Heart at 6:15 followed by Stewardson-Strasburg against CHBC at 7:30. In Tuesday action in the winner bracket, St. Michael faces North Clay at 6:15 followed by South Central against Dieterich at 7:30.

At St. Anthony

In eighth-grade action Saturday, St. Anthony fell to visiting Olney, 34-17.

Olney took a 9-6 opening quarter lead and led by that same three points at halftime, 15-12. Olney then had a 9-2 third quarter and never looked back.

The Bullpups were led by Koenig with five points. St. Anthony drops to 4-4 on the season.

In the seventh-grade contest, St. Anthony captured a 40-24 victory.

The Bullpups held a 14-7 opening quarter lead. Lane Frost tallied 14 points for the Bullpups.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed two B victories over Effingham in seventh and eighth-grade action Friday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game, 42-12, taking a 17-7 opening quarter lead. Cooper Tegler and Mick Niebrugge scored eight points each for the Shoes.

Effingham was led by McCord with six.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town took a 16-5 first half lead and went on for a 44-16 win. Kolten Tabbert scored 16 for the winners.

Effingham was led by Rose, Pals, Nohren and Ellis with three each.
