Teutopolis will play for third place in the Class 7-3A Girls State Basketball Tournament after Saturday's opening round play at Auburn High School.

The Wooden Shoes opened play Saturday by downing Lockport Kelvin Grove, 26-14. The Shoes took a 6-4 opening quarter lead then had a 10-3 third period run.

Malea Helmink scored 10 points for the winners.

In the second contest, T-town fell to Staunton, 36-19. Staunton took the early lead at 11-8 at the half and had a 12-6 third period.

T-town was led by Chloe Probst with six points.

In other games, Quincy St. Peter won over Sherrard, 30-19, Germantown Hills downed Maroa-Forysth, 39-14, Staunton won over Beecher, 45-13 in opening round play. In the other semifinal contest, Quincy St. Peter defeated Germantown HIlls, 34-21.

The finals are scheduled for Thursday with T-town (19-9) against Germantown Hills (23-2) at 6 p.m. for third place. The championship features Quincy St. Peter (22-0) against Staunton (24-0) at 7:30 p.m.

Class 7-1A State Tournament

Sigel St. Michael saw its season come to a close in the 1A State Tournament at Assumption Central A&M Middle School Saturday.

The Sharpshooters fell to Ashland A-C Central, 20-15. Central took a 9-0 lead in the opening quarter and that was the contest.

St. Michael was led by Nancy Ruholl with 11 points. The Sharpshooters end the season at 18-8.

In other games, Bartonville Monroe downed Decatur Holy Family, 39-19, Ottawa Marquette won over Annawan, 30-16 and Lincoln West LIncoln-Broadwell downed Cissna Park, 49-18. In the semifinals, Ashland-Central defeated Bartonville Monroe, 38-18 and Lincoln West LIncoln-Broadwell, 30-23.

The finals are Bartonville Monroe against Ottawa Marquette at 6 p.m. for third place and Ashland-Central taking on Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell for the championship at 7:30.

Class 7-4A State Tournament

Effingham competed in the Class 7-4A State Tournament and fell to Canton Ingersoll, 29-20. The Mustangs trailed Ingersoll 12-4 at halftime then had a 10-8 third period but it wasn't enough.

Effingham was led by Saige Althoff with 12 points. The Mustangs end the season with a 17-4 record.

In other first round games, New Lenox Martino downed Rockford Eisenhower, 43-12, Alton won over Lockport Oak Prairie, 44-27 and Taylorville downed Markham Prairie-Hills, 41-11.

In the semifinals, Canton Ingersoll defeated New Lenox Martino, 31-20 and Alton won over Taylorville, 35-28.

New Lenox Martino now meets Taylorville Thursday at 6 p.m. for third place while Canton Ingersoll takes on Alton at 7:30.
