CHARLESTON -- Effingham claimed the championship of the Class 7-4A Charleston Girls Basketball Regional Tuesday.

The Mustangs edged out to a 9-5 opening quarter lead against Mattoon then held the squad scoreless to take a 11-5 halftime lead. The two teams scored six each in the third period before Effingham again held Mattoon scoreless with a 12-0 final period.

Althoff tallied 10 points for the Mustangs while Armstrong scored six.

Effingham will host its own sectional and face Mahomet-Seymour at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 4. Mahomet-Seymour downed Champaign Jefferson 32-26 to win its own regional.

Class 7-4A Charleston Regional

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis captured its own regional championship with a 24-12 win over Altamont Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 4-2 first quarter lead but the score was tied at 8-8 at halftime. T-town edged ahead by one going into the final period and then had a 12-1 run for the winning margin.

Riley Kemme tallied eight points for the Shoes.

T-town advances to face Marshall Wednesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cumberland Sectional.

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Class 7-1A Martinsville Regional

Sigel St. Michael claimed the championship of the Martinsville Regional Tuesday.

St. Michael downed host Martinsville, 26-15.

St. Michael advances to its own sectional Wednesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. to take on Danville Schlarman, winner of the Chrisman Scottland Regional.

 

Class 7-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Dieterich picked up a victory in the Edwards County Regional.

Dieterich handed Oblong a 38-16 loss. Dieterich led 10-1 after the opening quarter then had an 11-3 third period.

Two players hit double figures for the winners. Tegler tallied 15 while Niemerg scored 13.

Dieterich will face Edwards County, a 47-16 winner over Casey-Westfield, tonight for the regional championship at 6:30 p.m. The winner advances to the St. Anthony Sectional December 4 against either St. Anthony or Stewardson-Strasburg. Those two teams also play tonight at 5 p.m.
